Mack MP®8 Engine

The MP®8 engine is a legend on roads everywhere. With plenty of horsepower and torque across a wide operating range, the MP®8 delivers the muscle to shoulder heavy-duty vocational and highway workloads.

The Next Evolution in Piston Design

Mack’s innovative wave piston design delivers 2% improvement in fuel economy and 90% reduction in soot. The waves in the piston bowl redirect flames in the combustion chamber to utilize all available oxygen for a cleaner and more complete burn than standard diesel pistons.

Easy servicing

The MP Engine Series features 35,000-mile service intervals for highway trucks and 450-hour or 15,000-mile oil drain intervals (whichever comes first) for vocational applications. These engines are designed with convenient access points that make servicing a snap.

Variable Geometry Turbocharger

The electronically controlled Variable Geometry Turbocharger incorporates the latest technology to control turbo boost at all RPM ranges and engine loads.

Serious Weight Savings

The lighter the engine, the more you can load. The MP® 8 now weighs 88 pounds less than the previous version, which means more payload per trip day in and day out—plus better operational efficiency and more revenue.

A brake powerful enough to stop a Mack

The Mack PowerLeash™ engine brake provides more braking horsepower through mid-RPM ranges, and weighs 50 pounds less than competitive engine brakes. It’s fully integrated with the MP Engine Series, and with better braking over the entire speed range, PowerLeash delivers the most retarding horsepower ever in a Mack engine brake. Drivers will immediately notice the responsiveness of the near-instantaneous engine braking, giving drivers confidence behind the wheel. For trucks with the Mack mDRIVE™ automated manual transmission, Power Leash can be programmed to work with the mDRIVE to automatically downshift to maximize brake-retarding effort.

Maximum performance

Offered in three engine families—Econodyne®, MaxiCruise® and Maxidyne®—the MP Engine Series is tailored to fit your applications. The Econodyne engines are ideal for typical interstate applications where fuel economy is a priority. The MaxiCruise engines perform best on rolling interstates and in on/off road applications. The Maxidyne engines provide high power for low-speed, high-performance and severe-duty conditions, especially in off-road applications.
